I was Eunice's supervisor in the early 1980s. She was the single mother of two young boys supporting them on a four digit annual salary. Excellent insurance was available to her, and she only had to pay 30%. But when the choice was health insurance or feeding her sons, she chose the latter. So she didn't go to a doctor for her recurrent cough. By the time she went to the ER, her lung cancer was Stage 4. She died a month or so later. Her sons were 14 and 11.
