Janette Porter Dodge writes:
My brother had health insurance through his wife's employer. Upon his divorce, he lost the health insurance at the same time he lost his job. He, then, could neither afford health insurance nor get it. What little money he had, he gave to his children for child support. He developed chest pain. He saw a doctor who put him on meds and ordered tests at the hospital. I was told that the hospital would not perform the tests without insurance or a way to pay for the tests. A week or two later, he had a heart attack (probably coronary) while sitting on his porch in the middle of the night. He was found dead the next morning on the porch floor, his head gashed on the barbeque grill near his chair! He was 57!!! This should not have happened!!!! A needed bypass could have fixed his problem!!!! Today, three children would still have a father and I, a brother, had he had health insurance! He had always had a job and always had been a responsible productive citizen, well liked by all who knew him.
