Stephen Martin writes:
Tom had a hernia but also thought something else might might be wrong down there. He had no insurance so he kept putting off the hernia operation. After he finally did get the hernia operation out of total necessity, he realized that indeed something else was going on. He had little money so he put off having it looked into until his bowels were totally blocked. It was a tumor, colon cancer. He still didn't get treatment for months until he could get medical help from a government program. He died a year later. The biggest problem is all the delays that happen if someone doesn't have health insurance. Not having the money, not knowing how to get help, hoping the problem isn't serious and trying to ignore it until it's too late.
